Fitness tips to get you in shape for the New Year!

Plan ahead folks... Summer is going to show up whether we like it or not, and why not look great in a bathing suit? The easiest way to lose weight is over time, so I urge you to plan ahead. If you are up ten pounds from your comfort level, start doing your gym time NOW. Do not wait until 2 weeks before you plan on being out to hit the gym, mainly because you will probably be 20 pounds over your comfort level instead, but also because maintaining your body is much easier to do than trying to either get buff, or lose weight quick.

We are here to help you out to reach your goal. Obviously having the right equipment will help you in the long run, but also focus on maintaining a healthy lifestyle with a combination of a good diet and exercise.

A couple of quick pointers:

1.) While a target weight is easy to track, I feel weights fluctuate too much. Drink too much water or eat too much and your scale will be doing backflips. Don't make weight your primary goal. Muscle mass weighs more than fat, so when you get stronger, you will be burning fat and gaining muscle mass. Now with that being said, if you are trying to lose a substantial amount of weight it will be a necessity to watch the scale, but if you are 10-20 pound over your target, don't let the scale scare you.

2.) Be consistent. You will stumble, but if you plan ahead, you will have plenty of time to get back on your feet. The winter is the best time to start getting your body (and life) into shape!

3.) Have a support group. If you are going to the gym, go with someone consistently, or if you are working out from home, make sure you have someone you are accountable to (husband, wife, best friend, parents, etc.). We as humans hate failure and are much more likely to succeed if we have to openly tell someone if we failed or succeeded.

The most important aspect of a proper fitness journey is DIET. Eat right and don't over eat. Here are a couple tools to help you eat healthy.

Mealthy Pressure Cooker:

Cause, Ain't nobody got time for that. Super easy to learn and cooks your complete meal for you in under an hour (most of the time). It's like the modern day crock-pot on steroids. The added recipes on their own app makes life even easier.

Another great brand is the Instant-Pot Pressure cooker with over 3,800 reviews, 3,100 of those are 5 stars... And if you really need some inspiration, check out the recipes that flood Pinterest. Either of these are a solid buy and you will definitely get your money's worth.

Supplements help the world go round. Thats for darn sure.

As you probably already know, protein helps your muscles recover after an intense day of training and helps your body build that precious muscle mass. You need some supplemental protein in your diet regardless of if you are male/female, young/old, fit/fat. Here are our favorite protein powders.

Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard

Double rich chocolate is the cream of the crop in flavors. the formula is a relatively well based protein additive with its mid range protein boost (24g), low sugar, low carbs, low calories. It's straight protein, so you are getting more of what you are aiming for.

Or if you really want the best and don't care about price, check out:

Dymatize ISO 100 Whey Protein Powder Isolate, Chocolate Peanut Butter, 5 lbs
This ish is insane. The reviews help to judge. But the flavor is perfect (chocolate peanut butter) You are only getting an extra gram of protein 25g, but the actual protein is in a class of its own.
  • 25g of Hydrolyzed 100% Whey Isolate
  • 5.5g of Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs) to help build muscle memory and aid in recovery
  • 2.7g of L-Leucine to support activation of Muscle Protein Synthesis
  • 1g or less of sugar

You may need some other supplements to help you achieve your goals, but make sure you talk to a trainer to ensure you are having a specific tailored diet. Easy healthy food is a given, and so it protein. Actually, fun fact, as a kid I was constantly troubled by chronic headaches. After a visit to the pediatrician, turns out I was just lacking protein in my diet. You know, a kid diet. Cereal i the morning, lunchable and an apple. Diet was changed to an egg and toast in the morning, a homemade turkey sandwich in the afternoon and a little extra meat at dinner. 20 years later, the healthy diet is still in play and still helps maintain weight and allows my body to become defined easily. I am by no mean a supermodel yet, but ask again in a couple months!

Just in case you needed some suggestions on some other great additions.

Optimum Nutrition Instantized BCAA Branched Chain Essential Amino Acids Powder, 5000mg, Unflavored, 60 Servings

BSN SYNTHA-6 Whey Protein Powder, Micellar Casein, Milk Protein Isolate, Chocolate Milkshake, 48 Servings (Packaging May Vary)

 - OPTIMUM NUTRITION Serious Mass Weight Gainer Protein Powder, Chocolate, 12 Pound

Now that you have your diet covered, its time get get the booty into shape! If you either cant make a commitment to the gym every day, at least get some gym time in at home. I know, I know, watching Grey's Anatomy is so much better than getting your beach body ready. But is it? If you can't make time for living a healthy life, maybe it is better to daydream about being a life changing surgeon instead (Grey's joke). My vote is you work on yourself and get some workout time in each day either at home or in the gym. Your fat doesn't take cheat days, why should you? Make your lifestyle change today, and if you need some good home workout products to help you, check out some of these bad boys.
Great home workout for those of you that cant make it to the gym, but the set also fits nicely into your gym bag if you wanted to work on your core at the gym. This set comes with a startup exercise guide, but you can always find hundreds more on Pinterest. Check them out here, or on Amazon if you would rather

RAW Built Tech Glide Plates
A teaspoon of sugar helps the Medicine (BALL) go down. But what helps it go back up? You do.
Medicine balls are a great way to get the most out of a home gym, but you probably don't need to toss this one in your gym bag, unless you get strong bag is a little light.
Check out this medicine ball from Amazon, its the same quality (if not better) than most commercial gyms, and not at a bad price point as well!
